Tornado was in charge of the Royal train from Preston to Manchester carrying Charlie and Camilla. here are some pictures of the departure shortly after leaving Preston. I will update with pictures of the returning ECS later on

46115 was in charge of the Cotton Mill express from Lancaster to Manchester but arrived at Preston over an hour late due to problems at carnforth with either the loco or coaches. further brake problems at Preston meant the tour was eventually cancelled at lunch time. 47760 was sent from Carnforth to rescue the train, and return it to base, dropping off passengers at Lancaster on the way.

A combination of deep snow, bright sunshine and hard work from the railways volunteers made this a day to remember. locos being utilised were the freshly painted class 47 D1501, large logo class 40, 40145, and deltics 55022 and 55016 on her first turns for over a year following re entry into preservation after being bought by Martin Walker. 37418 was also used to keep the punters warm.

Leander on the Fellsman, on this occasion I opted to leave the tripod at home and use a flashgun to highlight the steam and sillhouettes, It didnt quite work out due to the torrential rain ruining most shots.

The returning fellsman hauled by Jubilee Leander 560 and the Welsh mountain express meet at Preston side by side, a sight not seen for many years at Preston. The photographs were not easy due to the amount of people turned out to see the locos and the weather but here is a collection of my best shots

When I heard that Tangmere was in charge of a 5Z27, Southall to Carnforth ECS comprising of Queen of Scots set, I was unable to resist the temptation and ventured out into the cold. The photos are not brilliant, but it was freezing and past midnight. I could not decide which photos I liked best, so have uploaded them all Collection updated with her return south 3rd April 2009 on an ECS

47798 at Preston on test between Carnforth and Crewe. The ex royal train loco arrived 13 minutes early, passing through platform 3, then passing again minutes later heading north through platform 5. A few minutes later she appeared briefly on platform 7, then went north again before again ending up on platform 7.
